Polyphonic FX Sound Board Recommendations

Post by onlinetracker »

Hello all. I'm looking to make a fx sound board where I can press multiple buttons and play the sounds simultaneously for as long as the buttons are held down. Anyone have recommendations? Headphone/speaker output (either, both) are an option. I've been looking at the Adafruit METRO 328 with the Adafruit Music Maker and have it on order, but wouldn't mind a smaller footprint that allows me to use the Arduino IDE. Although I've seen matrix boards out there for the buttons, I'm looking for a 6x6 board and willing to custom make it to avoid the membrane options currently available. I'll be using switches for the sound board. There are a lot of options available and looking to find the best option for 3-5v mobile fx sound board. If you know of other threads, feel free to point me in that direction. I've read some, but time makes a different and I don't want to resurrect an old post unless the community doesn't mind questions in an old post. Thanks.

For smaller footprint and Arduino interfacing you should consider the Music Maker FeatherWing.

A FeatherWing M4 Express would be a good high performance controller board with plenty of memory.

The Trellis might be something to look into if you find the membrane suitable. The matrix options are 4x4, 8x8 and 4x8.

Looks good, and available. I'll try a build with this in mind.

Because I have buttons already in play, membrane won't be suitable for the format of the FX sound board triggers and none of the matrix boards are in the shape I need. 6x6 and more compact. I'll end up making a custom PCB it seems.

Thanks again for the leads, I hope my BBCode isn't borked when this posts. I'm new to this forum. You, however, are awesome for providing an answer. Much appreciated.

Let us know how it goes with the MusicMaker. I figured the Trellis would not meet your needs, but thought it relevant to mention as it is so close in design specs.
