Boot folder doesn't show up when double tapping reset.

Post by Kraknuk »

Hello. I've just got a new rotary trinkey and soldered in my encoder. Plugged it in and device was recognized by windows 10 right away. Following online I read to double tap reset to get a green LED and a boot folder would appear. I do have a green light BUT no folder anywhere, or at least not in my PC where I expected it.

I did try uninstalling the adafruit drivers and my computer gave me an error doing so. I reinstalled the newest version which seemed to install without issues.

Additionally, the macropad 2040 I own does work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you seeing a CIRCUITPY folder show up before double pressing reset?

The shipped demo might be Arduino based. What is showing up here?
Plugged it in and device was recognized by windows 10 right away.

I'm sorry, but I do not understand what you mean.
In my attached image I found it under "devices" as "Rotary Trinkey M0".

Thanks for clarifying. That's what we were looking for.

You mention getting a green LED:
I do have a green light BUT no folder anywhere
At this point, the device is no longer showing up in Device Manager either?

It will show up under device manager in "universal Serial Bus devices" as Rotary Trinky M0 still.

OK, let's go back to maybe it being something with the drivers. Those should not have been installed. Having them installed is a known possible reason for preventing the BOOT folder from showing up:

Where did you originally obtain the driver files?

I do not know. But when I attempt to uninstall them I get that odd error page as seen in my uploaded image. I tried with the windows utility and with cc cleaner as well.

Do you have access to another PC? Just for the simple test / check to see if the BOOT folder will show up there?

OK, going back to the driver removal issue. In the screen capture, that window with the title Device Driver Installation Wizard is what pops up when you click the Uninstall button?
