FunHouse

Post by DGrzesikCSDF »

I have a new FunHouse which is not being recognized or booting beyond the green LED. It is not responding to boot or reboot sequences with the hardware buttons and is not showing up in the Arduino IDE even after ESP32 boards have been loaded. The screen and other lights never booted and the screen is not squarely installed on the board (I realize that it is only double-stick tape).

Have you tried the Factory Reset process?

I've tried the reset button sequence and flashing the ESP with the ESP tool but it is not being recognized and is not showing up as a serial connection. The green light remains lit and nothing seems to happen when a factory reset sequence is attempted.

Hi, if the green LED is only being lit, it may just be booting right into the bootloader mode. If you just plug it in, do any ports show up at all?

It is not showing up when connected to either a PC or Mac using a data transfer USB-C

Hi,

On the Mac, if you go to the terminal app and type

Code: Select all

ls /dev/cu.*
what do you see?
Can you try plugging in while holding the boot button and run the above command as well?

I'm hoping you see one called cu.usbmodel01
Also, maybe try a different cable if none of that works.

Thanks,
Melissa

ls /dev/cu.* returns:
"/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port"
I've tried other cables and I've ordered some more (USB C to USB C) from Adafruit which should arrive by early next week. The one I'm using now was ordered from Adafruit https://www.adafruit.com/product/4474 and I've used it on the mac with the Apple USB-C-A adapter and on a PC directly with similar results. Thanks for your help with this!

No worries. Do you happen to have another USB-C data device you could test your cable with? The cable you linked to should work fine.

I can connect to a QTPy:
/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port /dev/cu.usbmodem1101

Ok, that's really helpful. Did the funhouse ever do anything for you besides light up the green light?

Sadly, no it has never done more than that or even seemed to respond to button presses (reset/boot or combos).

Thanks for testing those things. I can't really think of anything else to try, so I'm letting one of the other people know.

OK, let's replace it. The ESP32 has a ROM bootloader that should always be possible to get into. There's no way to accidentally overwrite it, etc.. So not sure what is happening here.

Send an email to [email protected] with a link to this thread and your order number and they can send you a replacement FunHouse.
