DSI Cable Extender Thingy not working

Hi,

1) Neither of the cable thingies I've purchased are working. The raspi camera works with a 30cm cable I have, but as soon as I connect the thingy (even with a 1" cable at the other end), the camera stops working. I'd like to return both.
2) The flex cable I received is badly kinked in the middle. I'd like to have this replaced.
