Raspberry pi4 - 2Gb seems dead - How to troubleshoot

Post by masteryodha »

Hi, I bought a raspberry pi 4 - 2Gb in 2019. It was working fine until now. It was installed in an arcade cabinet and running retropie from a 128gb sdcard.

A few weeks ago, it stopped working.
What it does is : when I plug the power in, the red power led ligths up and the green one blink what seem to be 1 time and then nothing more. And the broadcom chip is almost instantly hot.

What I tried :
- Installing a fresh debian os image
- Using a 32 Gb with a fresh debian os image
- Tried with a sd card imaged with bootloader to boot from usb
- unplugged everything from the pi (except power supply).

The power supply is working fine as it is able to power up my phone or another pi 4 I have and is rated at 3Amps and 5 volts.

I inspected the motherboard to see if a component was removed or seemed broken, but nothing seems broken.

At the moment it stopped working, this is what was plugged in :
- power
- hdmi
- audio out
- 2 usb "keyboard" for the joysticks

I don't know what to do next to troubleshoot before assuming the pi is dead beyond repair.

Any help appreciated.

And sorry for my english as this is not my primary language.

Thanks.

thank you for this resource.

I followed and read everything and nothing works.
I guess I might have short the pins or something.

I'm considering it dead and will try to buy a new one :P
