Help novice here

Post by smgdjango »

Can anyone recommend a set of learning materials or a roadmap for learning electronics etc. I went through the tutorials off the learning tab that describes what a battery is an led etc capacitor all good though nothing on resistors and other components. Is there a recommended roadmap for a beginner who wishes to learn but way past the age to getting an EE degree.
Would really like to learn enough to implement some of my
Idea?

Make Magazine has published an assortment of books that would be applicable. So has Simon Monk. Have a look for them where you like to buy technical books.

For basic (i.e. non-microcontroller) electronics, you might want to start with my series in HackSpace magazine issues 9-20.

I'm a big fan of "learn by doing", so I'd suggest that you buy one of those basic electronic teaching kits such as this one:
https://www.sciplus.com/electronic-playground-48491-p?
Or even this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/144821893695?
These are just examples of the general style of kit that I think would work for you. There are probably dozens more out there.

I wouldn't start with a kit that has a lot of fancy stuff like robots and microcomputers. As you said, you want the basics, like the kits I mention above.
