Info on product component

Post by DaniV »

Hello, I came upon a component you guys sell on your website and wanted to know if it is similar to the one I need for my project. I'm not that good with components and parts and just wanted to know if it is similar to the one I'm searching for. I've provided a link of your product and provided pictures of my part below to compare. Are both components similar in function and will they work on a guitar amplifier?

They are both 10K potentiometers. The question is whether the one you have is linear or logarithmic (i.e. what curve the resistance change follows as you rotate the shaft. My limited knowledge of audio electronics leads me to think that you might want a log pot like https://www.adafruit.com/product/3391. They'll both it you change resistance between 0 and 10K, they differ by how that changes.

They'll both work in place of what you have, but one of them won't behave the same way.

The shafts are different as well, so the knob will be a factor as well.

Just what is your component? What is the resistance and is it linear taper or not? Ours is a 10K ohm linear taper.

To dastels:

The pot that I have is a B10K, split-shaft pole but not sure about linear or logarithmic? This one is used for the bass knob of the guitar amplifier which is a Vox AD100VT. So when I turn the knob all the way to zero (Left
side) there will be no bass and if I turn the bass knob all the way to the right I increase the bass and the limit is 10, just like any other guitar amp knob works. Since the pot was broken, I just need to replace the broken one which is the bass knob. Plus, it is also a right angle pot like the one in my pictures. All the potentiometer on the guitar amp knobs are the same. I don't mind it not being a split shaft, cause I can just use a knob with a hex screw and use it like that, no problem. It doesn't have to be a split shaft type, as long as it's a right angle. So I think going with the B10K one is the best right?

Let me provide you with a schematic and manual of the amplifier so you can make sure and understand it better.

To Franklin97355:

Mine is a B10K potentiometer from a guitar amplifier. This is from the bass knob of the guitar amplifier and it was broken. It was splitshaft style but I don't mind it if it is a solid shaft. As long as it is right angle just like the pictures I provided that is fine. The one in the website says B10K right angle and that is something I have already, so then would work right?

I replied to dastels and provided schematics and manual of the guitar amp, so you can see it too.

B seems to denote linear, so the product you linked to should work. Double check the shaft diameter. As long as that matches and the knob is snug enough it should work (it will electrically).
