Adding WiFi to webcam

Post by GruntDoc »

Hello, this is my first post and I'm definitely out of my element here. I worked tech support for Windows 95 when it came out and haven't kept up in tech in a meaningful way since. I ordered a Raspberry Pi because I'd like to learn some basics for use in controlling mechanical actuators, switches, and valves, but I have a more much more basic WiFi question for you today.

I have just had to completely rearrange an office and now need to connect to a webcam via WiFi. I see a WiFi enabled hub for sale here, at frankly an amazing price, (https://www.adafruit.com/product/2937) and hope someone might be able to tell me if it would work how I'm hoping.

I have a Samsung smart tv mounted on the wall that has WiFi and USB ports (https://www.samsung.com/us/televisions- ... u8000fxza/), and it will work plug and play through it's onboard software with some webcams but unfortunately not the Logitech Brio I have (https://www.logitech.com/en-us/products ... 01105.html). I'm hoping that I could take the USB hub linked above, plug it into a USB port on the TV solely for power, and then plug the webcam into that and connect via WiFi to the computer. Since the TV and the camera are used for videoconferencing I'd like to have the camera mounted right below it so it doesn't appear I'm staring off in a random direction while looking at the tv.

With that sale price if this works I don't think I can find a cheaper option, but if there is a better one I'm certainly open to hearing it as well. Thanks for any help.
