DSB18B20 Serial Number Group

Post by VoronManiac »

https://www.adafruit.com/product/374 - are these parts manufactured by Maxim/Dallas or are they clones? Can obviously tell by accuracy, but easier to look at serial numbers or initial temp reading. Thanks.

As far as I know, Adafruit sells authentic ICs only. Anyway, let's see what they have to say in this regard.

We buy from either the manufcturer or from reliable distributors like Digikey and Mouser.

That doesn't rule out the possibility of counterfeits entirely.. the supply chains are massively complex. There are known cases where fake parts made their way into a manufacturer's inventory through overstock returns, then got resold as legitimate parts by the real manufacturer.

That's about the level of vulnerability our supply is subject to though. The parts we carry are far more likely to be legitimate than the supply from largely unknown sellers on eBay and such.

Mike,
Thank you for confirming. My order just arrived. I spot checked 10 parts out of the batch and all look great!

ROM Serial numbers start with 0x00 00 0E.
Date codes are laser etched.
There is an embossed "P" on the back of the case.
Temp variation min to max was 0.61C at ambient plugged into a proto socket.
This is a great price for these parts. Thanks Again.
