The picture is the same as the setup pictured in this thread. I ended up taking out the totally unresponsive Gemma and putting in the one that wasn't dead. The circuitry didn't change at all.SUBJECT: Gemma M0 Dead on Arrival
Hi there,
Last month I purchased an Adafruit Gemma M0 (Order
#3018084-7562566998) for a wearable project that I'm very excited
about - a glowing crown with a built-in rechargeable lipo battery. I
will definitely share pictures with the Adafruit team when I'm done. I
have never used a Gemma before so this was a new experience for me.
For the life of me I couldn't get it to work. I installed all the
required drivers and Adafruit and Arduino libraries for it, but when I
plugged it into my PC, nothing. It wasn't even recognized and I didn't
see a light or hear a beep from my PC. Fortunately I had bought two -
in exasperation I plugged in the second one, and ping, it worked like
a charm.
So I can only conclude that one of my Gemmas was dead. Can I get a
replacement sent to me? I actually plan to place another Adafruit
order so if I could get a code for the Gemma and a shipping code that
would also work. If you want to send me a replacement Gemma separately
that is also ok.

Hi Bill - I emailed support@adafruit about this, but they told me I had to use the forum instead. Here is my message:

Not even the power indicator LED on the Gemma? It wasn't even recognized and I didn't see a light or hear a beep from my PC.
Can you post a close-up photo of the front of the Gemma showing the area around the USB jack?

Not even the power LED. Absolutely nothing happened when I plugged in this Gemma M0. I troubleshot the USB cable by plugging in an Arduino Metro and flashing code to it. And it is the same cable I ended up using with my second, not-dead Gemma M0. I will post a picture of the dead Gemma M0 when I get home from work.

Thanks for the nice clear photo. I initially suspected a dry solder joint on the USB jack. But they all look OK. Could be a bad contact internal to the jack itself. The power-LED is connected directly to the VBUS pin, so there is not much room for things to go wrong.
