Adafruit DRV8871 DC Motor Driver Breakout Board - 3.6A Max

Post by spaul75 »

Hi,
We are using 8871 motor driver mentioned above. IN1 and IN2 are connected to the Raspberry Pi PWM pins. Multimeter shows rising voltage (0 to 3.2volt as per multimeter) on the IN1, IN2 ports (also tried using 5volt and GND pin alternatively on IN1, IN2). VIN and GND ports are not used.
A 12 volt LiPo battery is used to connect to the power (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072PPRPRN/re ... 3105b62179)

Following is the motor connected to the motor pins:
https://www.pololu.com/product/3225

We are not getting any power on the motor pins (multimeter shows no voltage at all - 0 volts). Motor does not move. Tested the motor by directly connecting to the battery and it works.

As a sanity check, what voltage do you see between the screws on the POWER terminals?

VIN and GND ports are not used.
You need a GND connection between the Pi & DRV8871. That is the reference voltage against which the IN1 & IN2 control signals are measured.

Checked the power using multimeter on the screws of the power terminal - it is 12.6. Also, connected the GND pin of DRV8871 to Pi, I see the voltage between GND & IN2 as rising from 0 to 3.2, but motor still doesn't run.

As an additional note, I have ordered a new driver 8871 (Order 3036663) and it works fine. Surely, there was something wrong with the one sent to me before.

Not sure if you have any refund process for the faulty product?

If you ordered direct from Adafruit, please contact [email protected] with your order information and a link to this thread and we can refund you for the DRV8871.

If you purchased from a reseller, you should contact them and reference this thread as authorization for a return/refund.
