PyPortal not turning on

Post by MaddieM »

Hello,
I am working on reflowing components using the following EZ Make oven tutorial: https://learn.adafruit.com/ez-make-oven ... aster-oven
I ordered a PyPortal from Adafruit on Feb 23rd (Order No.: 3024307-3119429437), followed the steps mentioned in the link below to cut the 5V VCC trace and soldered to the 3V pad: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pyportal/pinouts
I didn't make any other changes. I can't get the PyPortal to boot up, no lighted up screen, nothing.
Please help me, is this a defective piece?

Do you have access to a multimeter that could be used to confirm the trace is cut and not still shorting back to the 5V pad?

Yes, I checked and confirmed with a multimeter that the trace has been cut.

OK, thanks for checking. Wanted to make sure there wasn't possibly a short between 5V and 3V there.

What happens if you plug in the PyPortal with the USB cable and double press the reset button? Do any of the LEDs on the back of the PyPortal light up?

The red LED lights up when I connect the USB cable. It blinks whenever I (double) press the Reset button.

Thanks. That sounds like expected behavior. It seems like the bootloader is running (with double press of reset) and driving the LED activity seen to indicate an issue with USB connection.

The blinking LED is the one pointed at by the red arrow below? And it's a fast blink? Like a couple of times a second?

Does the STATUS LED (in red box) also turn red at the same time?

Yes, the red LED is the one you indicated in the picture. The other one, the Status LED is not turning on.

I also want to clarify what I meant by blink. It is not blinking continuously. It blinks once every time I hit the reset button.
