Request product proposal AMOLED 1.91"

Post by AliBabaz »

@adafruit

I recently came across this product: https://www.lilygo.cc/products/t-display-s3-amoled

The interesting thing here is the display. This would be a great addition to your own product portfolio.

A few data...

Size: 1.91"
Resolution: 536 (H) x 240 (W)
Density: 307ppi
Panel: AMOLED
Colors: 16.7M
Driver: Raydium RM67162 https://github.com/Xinyuan-LilyGO/T-Dis ... t_V0.0.pdf

Please, if possible, bring such a display or even such a board (ESP32-S3 and/or RP2040) to the market in the future. Both will find their buyers. I know that you already have a similar product (https://www.adafruit.com/product/5394). However, not with this high resolution.

With kind regards
AliBabaz

OK - i think there might be a typo because the driver chip does 480x480 max resolution but the product page says 240 x 536 so i think its 240x356

The Lilygo device uses a 1.91" AMOLED display. It is 240X536 pixels using MIPI.

The hardware is excellent. Screen is pitch black in black areas, great off-axis viewing, bright, and very sharp. Unfortunately Lilygo's software is basically non-existent. So it'd be fantastic if someone were to make a similar product (its board is the same size as the display on 3 sides, which is terrific for installing in stuff) with actual software for it.

I'm just trying to get simple animated GIF code on this thing (I don't need full motion video) with no sign of land so far! Animated GIFs - so long as they can make an image appear on-screen without a slow descending curtain effect - are a great way to give complex motion without the headache of video. :)

huh MIPI isnt supported by the ESP32-S3, do you have a link to the display driver code? that will help us identify it!

I was really stoked to see this display on a product as I'm looking to use a rectangular display and stumbled upon this topic in my search to see if there's any way to hook it up to one of the boards I have.

This is the information I've found.
The display's model name is ED191AM8M, BANNED has a product page for it https://www.BANNED.com/amoled/1-9 ... 0x536.html which contains a spec sheet.

It is indeed as you stated MIPI (1-Lane).
LilyGo's board seems to state it uses QSPI to drive the display, the magic glue seems to be the RM67162 Single chip driver. A specsheet for this driver can be found online:
https://www.orientdisplay.com/wp-conten ... M67162.pdf
and mentions
"The RM67160 supports MIPI Interface, 8-bit system interfaces, serial peripheral interfaces (SPI), dual serial
peripheral interfaces (Dual-SPI). The specified window area can be updated selectively, so that moving
pictures can be displayed simultaneously independent of the still picture area."
" The IC possesses internal GRAM that stores 480-RGB x 480-dot 16.77M-color images"

So as I understand it, The MCU writes to the drivers GRAM over SPI and it in turn drives the Panel over DSI (MIPI).

The original manufacturer of the display seems to be EDO (EverDisplay) https://www.everdisplay.com/en/AboutUs.html but their site isn't very functional so I couldn't find anything on there.
