almost-DOA metro M7

Post by Cinnabar »

I recently purchased a Metro M7 w/ airlift (Order 3077842-9920096926). I removed it from the packaging and I plugged it in to my computer via USB to upload a python program to test things out before uploading all of my project code. The board appeared to be functioning well and I switched it into bootloader mode successfully. After about a minute or 2 I smelled hot electronics and the chip next to 3.3v/5v was overheating, and the entire surrounding area became too hot to touch.

Currently the board will not turn on at all either through the a 12v power supply hooked up to the DC jack or using a USB C cable. It's worth noting the board is only overheating when the DC jack is used. I metered DC power supply I am using and it is staying at 11.97v with zero fluctuation.

That's the 5v regulator. If it's dead, the board doesn't get power from the DC jack, but 5v from the USB should power the board fine. That said, if the 5v regulator heated up it might have damaged other parts in the power circuit.

Regardless, what happened shouldn't have happened. Please email [email protected] with a link to this thread, your order number, and request the replacement of one Metro M7 with AirLift.
