Select using 3 M4SK buttons not working

I've just finished a physical (not software) customization of M4SK by mounting it in a wooden box. I've read the PDF sheet, which says that I can select from among four patterns by installing eye libraries below the root directory and then providing config.eye, config1.eye, config2.eye, and config3.eye in the root directory. I've done these file installs correctly (I am quite sure of this through experimentation). However, the three buttons will not do anything if any are held down upon upon switching on. It will only boot using config.eye, no matter what I do with the buttons. Through the statistics/troubleshooting program it is known the buttons are responsive. Any ideas? Thank you

Is anything output to Serial when the M4SK starts up? If there's any problem loading the selected config file, it uses default settings.
