feather wing enable pin

Post by atoudam »

Hi

I have the dotstar featherWing
https://www.adafruit.com/product/3449

however i am not driving it with a feather (external board)
i have pulled the enable pin high to 5v with a 10K resistor (and feed 5V into the USB pin)

my question is do i need the 10K resistor? i believe this is just connected to the gates of the fets that control which power source to use (battery or usb) so i should be safe without the resistor?

Cheers
Adam

The E pin controls power to the matrix. Pulling it low cuts all power to the matrix. normally on a Feather it's pulled high. If you are not going to use using it, you should be able to wire it directly to 5v. But doing that or using a resistor as you have it (the only advantage of which is that you can ground EN to power off the matrix) requires 5v power, as it is not connected to the battery pin.
