pitch cv in

I'm retuning my x0x in real time using a modular but when I do I lose my slides. I know this is possible because on my x0xi0 pitch cv in works.guest mentions that you need to use a resistor between the tip of the jack and pin 5 on IC 11. I've a 2k2 in but that doesn't seem to work.
Do I just keep blindly experimenting with resistor values or does anyone with greater electronics knowledge have anything to share?
