Reattaching a component

Post by billg »

Hi,
I am trying to reattach a surface component to a motherboard that came loose at M4

. Can anyone offer advice on how to do this correctly, if at all? The goal is to get a replacement motor on a robo vacuum working again. I have a Hakko soldering iron with basic tips for working with electronics and a little experience doing soldering with Arduino shields. Shown here are the component that came loose and the board minus that part. Thanks!
Bill

Given the tiny size and the lack of exposed area on the mounting tabs at the ends, this is probably a job for some solder paste and a hot-air reflow station.

You should be able to do that with your Hakko and a fine tip. I'd start by cleaning the pins and the solder-pads on the board with some isopropyl alcohol and an old toothbrush. A little bit of liquid flux on the pins would be helpful as well.
