Difference between Parallel, serial and USB dongle

Post by EEdy »

To program the SpokePOV, i have the USB Dongle, but I also know that there are 2 other options, parallel and serial dongle.

1. What are the difference between parallel, serial and USB dongle? Why do we need a ATtiny2313 on the USB Dongle but not on the parallel and serial dongles?

2. Is it possible to make a wireless transmission from computer to the ATtiny2313 microcontroller on the SpokePOV kit?

THanks

The parallel dongle works with a computer parallel port (whjich I haven't seen in years and years - printers used to use parallel ports).
The serial dongle works with a computer serial COM port.

You could mmayyyybeee make a wireless programming connection using two XBee radios. But it would be wayyyy more trouble than it would be worth.
