does anyone know of drop in replacements for the rare parts, im considering building a second x0x from self sourced parts. I'm aiming to make it highly modified and im not so worried about getting it to sound 100% tb since i already have a x0x. Just figure it could make a nice "other" synth, plus the sequencer would be handy.
A few searches of the forum have led me to belive these parts could be good substitutes, can anyone confirm or shed light on this please and if these are drop in replacements or not.
*NOTE* using any of these parts will most likely affect the sound of the x0x and take it away from a true clone
J201 for the 2SK30A
Frebrik wrote:The only problem with the J201 is that you need to twist the gate and source legs of it before fitting since it has a different pinout than the 2SK30A-O. (Check the datasheet for both).
mouser search for 2SK30A gives NTE459 as a Cross ReferenceMatch for:2SK30A but with none in stock NTE cross reference recommends NTE459 as a compatable substitute for 2SK30A datasheet
lm13700 for the ba6110
guest wrote:the best replacement for the ba6110
is the lm13700
and the best part is
you get two amplifiers for a buck
almost enough to make you want
to build a dual voiced x0x
*note* i've looked at the datasheet of the lm13700 and its a dip with completely different pin outs.
NTE44 for the 2sc2291
creekree wrote:the friendly guy in my local electronics store told me that the NTE44 is a direct replacement for the 2sc2291.
datasheet can be found here
could someone with a 2sc2291 datasheet compare the two? i wasnt able to find one anywhere.
mouser search for 2sc2291 gives NTE44 as a Cross ReferenceMatch for:2sc2291 with plenty in stock NTE cross reference recommends NTE44 as a compatable substitute for 2SC2291 datasheet

nte42 for the 2SC1583

i would use the original part in the ladder though

mouser search for an6562 gives
LM358N
NTE928SM
NTE928M
NJM2904D
as Cross Reference Matches for:an6562 with plenty in stock NTE cross reference recommends NTE928M as a compatable substitute for an6562 datasheet
NTE85 for 2SC536F

I've successfully build my second x0x with 2sc945p as substitutes. It works really good and still sounds like a 303
I've chosen the 945 because Roland used these on some 303s, too. The 'p' model was the closest match to the hfe-value of the 536f.
mouser search for 2sc945p gives NTE289 as a Cross ReferenceMatch for:2sc945p with plenty in stock NTE cross reference recommends NTE85 as a compatable substitute for 2SC536F datasheet
NTE1465 for LA4140
mouser search for LA4140 gives NTE165 as a Cross ReferenceMatch for:LA4140 with plenty in stock NTE cross reference recommends NTE1465 as a compatable substitute for LA4140 datasheet
any ideas? thoughts?

But I guess there are a lot more possibilities. The guy at my favorite electronics store told me some more parts that could be used as substitutes. Can't tell the names anymore because the 945p was my first choice.

nice one, are they still in production?
edit: i just checked mouser and they gave 526-NTE289 as a cross reference match, which has given me an idea to search all rare parts at mouser and let them find equivalents

Don't know. I searched all the online stores I knew for the 945p until I found it. It seemed to me like they are a bit easier to get than the 536, but I they're also not too common. Especially when you want to get a certain suffix. As for the suffix: I don't know how important it is. When I set out to find a suitable substitute, I wanted to be as close as possible to the original part. Thus I also tried to get a part that had a similar hfe-value than the original part.
Hello everybody, i am about to build my own x0xb0x by myself (tracking myself the parts) and I have found most of the rares transistors in a french site (because i am french). So if you are french (I think they don't send worldwide) you can buy:
And maybe you are brave or rich to send free those parts to members.
I am not rich at all, but I wanted to share the information with french builders and other but the problem is (and not my fault) that it's a local store which send only in france (maybe later worldwide, who knows?).
And if some people can't really find those transistors, maybe I could help them.
Here is what I wanted to say, I think you have misunderstood me, this is my fault , I have forgotten the link.
Browsing ebay i found 100packs of 2sc945 for US$5.00... These can be used as a alternative to 2sc536F... I used 945's in my x0x and they function correctly..

Just doing some planning on building my b0x been looking at the transistor’s and getting the high beta values
In the uk I haven’t been able to find anywhere that stocks the 2SA733p but reading the build manual for the BANNED tm3030 http://www.oakleysound.com/tm3030.pdf I spotted that thy use the BC212L which is available from http://www.rapidonline.com, has anyone used them and/or can make a comparison
suckerformimi wrote:Can I substitute 2SC536 for 2SC536F?
they are essentially the same, the "F" suffix is the hfe/beta value and you'll probably find that your 2SC536 have a letter suffix on them (im assuming you didnt buy them yet)
