strange things with the 5.333V

by substyler on Sun Dec 14, 2008 5:38 pm

hi !

i have just finished my first (self sourced) x0xb0x and after some trouble with some faulty transistors everything works fine.
BUT: my x0x have still some trouble with the 5.333V: when I trim to 5.333V my x0x plays with filter warble and some dropouts and IC23 on the power supply is going to be very hot.

when I turn down the 5.33V to 5.15V (measured at J4) the x0x is working very fine ! no dropouts, no filter warble and IC23 stays cool.
turning with TM6 back to 5.333V the x0x play that dropouts and the filter warble (sounds liquid or something)

I double and triple checked all wires, all traces, but I can't find any problems.
this makes me mad :x

every hint would be really helpful !
thanks in advance !

cheers

what is your 12v voltage
with 5.333v and 5.15v

you can disconnect the 12v line to the mainboard
and then turn up the 5.333v and see if it overheats
and then reconnect the 12v and disconnect the 5.333 line to the mainboard
and turn up the the 5.333v and see if it overheats

there might be a part on the mainboard that cant handle 5.333v
check the 74ac174 to see if it heats up when you turn up the 5.333v
or feel around for other parts that might also be getting hot

what is your voltage on c8

hey guest,

IC 9 was faulty ! I'm getting a new one, everything is working fine ! ( it was a good idea to socket all ICs :) )
no more heat, no more warble... only acid !

good job, thnx :)
