Replacing batteries from battery pack on spoke

Post by SirChuck »

In the following video at about 1 minute 30 seconds in, Becky Stern shows us how to attach a battery pack to the bike using metal zip ties. My question is how to you replace the batteries if you secure it like that?

Do you have to cut off the zip-ties each time, or can you maneuver around enough to open the pack and replace the batteries and then re-secure the pack?

Thanks

I would strongly recommend not attaching it in a way that might be able to work loose by itself. Nylon ties are easy to cut and a bag of them will last you through plenty of battery changes.

The 3xAAA battery pack also has 2 screw-lugs on either end of the case. If you have some of the nylon spoke-clips they use to attach wheel reflectors, you could attach the battery box that way and still have access to open the box for battery changes.

Here is what I came up with, it's ugly but it should work. I used a dremel to run holes wide enough to fit the metal ties through the back of the battery pack, and the front has a screw that will screw on the front plate. It should hold. :)

That looks like it should work. Thanks for the follow-up!
